According to Brauer, Mazda's third and final generation of the RX-7 sports car was often called a "Japanese Ferrari." It featured a twin-turbocharging system in a sleek, lightweight body and some of the best handling of any vehicle available at the time.

"The car's powerful acceleration was accompanied by balanced and confident handling," he said. It was produced and sold in Japan from 1978 through 2002, but its high price and lagging sales killed it after only three years on the U.S. market, he said.
