School Specialty, Inc.

GREENVILLE, Wis., Nov. 21, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- School Specialty Inc. (OTCBB:SCOO), a leading distributor of supplies, furniture and both supplemental and curriculum products to the education marketplace, today announced that the company has donated more than $400K in educational materials and lab supplies to nine area high schools in Mansfield, OH (primarily Richland county) for the advancement of science-related curricula and programs.

SSI's Mansfield Distribution Center continues to support education within the Mansfield community through various philanthropic initiatives aimed at providing the resources and tools that teachers and schools need to ensure students – from early childhood through high school and beyond – learn and reach their full potential. Over the past two weeks, nine high schools including Clear Fork High School, Crestview High School, Lexington High School, Madison Comprehensive High School, Mansfield Senior High School, Ontario High School, Pioneer Career and Technical Center, Plymouth High School, and Shelby High School have received an assortment of materials and supplies.

Principal Chris Smith at Ontario High School stated, "Ontario High School Science and Industrial Arts teachers are ecstatic to accept the donation from School Specialty. This donation will save these departments valuable dollars that will allow our teachers to purchase additional supplemental material and lab supplies that meet the evolving needs of our students. We're very grateful to School Specialty for its support and generosity as this allows Ontario to offer the kind of programs and activities that help develop the fundamental skills and know-how our students need to be scientifically-capable citizens in the 21st century."

"Education is at the heart of SSI and we remain dedicated to enhancing the learning and development of our nation's youth," remarked Robert Meherg, Distribution Center Director for School Specialty. "Our investment in our schools is not only for today but is also an investment for the future when our students become tomorrow's leaders and innovators – applying the knowledge they have acquired to contribute and be productive citizens in society – whether it be in the Sciences or Arts. We're pleased to partner with the respective Mansfield high schools and see it as our civic responsibility to ensure our children and devoted teachers have the necessary tools, materials and support services that foster scholarship and personal development."

School Specialty's contribution to school districts in the Mansfield area is another highlight of the company's commitment to designing and delivering unique educational products and services – school supplies, standards-based curriculum and supplemental learning resources, furniture and more – that meet the growing needs of all students.

Mr. Meherg concluded, "Much of SSI's growth and success is a result of the educational support our employees received. Our leadership as an innovative organization is a great example of the power and fruits of education, so it's an honor and a pleasure for us to give back to the institutions and educators that promote learning."
