Christmas is a few weeks away and 'tis the season for consumers to purchase and decorate Christmas trees - whether real or plastic pines - so Santa knows where to put the gifts.

The U.S. Christmas tree industry is a billion-dollar business that sold a total of 35 million trees in 2012. Holiday shoppers bought 24.5 million real trees and 11 million artificial trees. The average spent on a real tree is $41 and $72 on an artificial tree.
