Business News currently seeing errors in 10% of data transfers

The federal Obamacare marketplace has errors in its electronic enrollment data that are estimated at 10 percent of current transactions, and were even higher earlier, officials disclosed Friday.

Officials said, in its first two months of operation, experienced an estimated 25 percent error rate in enrollment transmissions to insurers who sell policies on that health exchange.

Federal officials now are engaged in painstaking efforts with insurers to check transmitted enrollments, and fix any errors, they said. Consumers who have questions about whether they actually are enrolled in Obamacare insurance should directly contact their carrier, officials said.

The errors are occurring in so-called 834 file transmissions, the forms that insurers rely on when they issue coverage to consumers. The errors in individual enrollments need to be fixed for people to be issued that coverage.
