Mobile shopping was huge this year, but not all retailers got the mobile boost they may have hoped for.
Of the top 20 brick-and-mortar retailers, Target was the No. 1 most-browsed retailer on smartphones and tablets, knocking down Wal-Mart Stores, which was the most-browsed brand on mobile last year, according to Mobiquity's Mobile Shopping Satisfaction Report published Wednesday.
In fact, 45 percent of consumers browsed Target's app and site on their tablets in 2013 versus 28 percent last year, according to the study, which was conducted by the independent research firm ResearchNow.
Apple, though, is where most consumers actually made purchases with their mobile devices.

Forty-nine percent of consumers used their smartphones to purchase from Apple's mobile app and its site in 2013, compared to 14 percent in 2012.
Across the board, though, more people are making purchases using their mobile device.
In total, mobile sales from the top 20 brick-and-mortar retailers made up more than 17 percent of total online sales, which is an increase of 55.4 percent from a year ago, according to report.
Wal-Mart and Best Buy came in behind Apple as the top brands where consumers were actually making purchases on their smartphones and tablets.
Why are more people shopping these brands than others on mobile? Probably because their apps and mobile websites actually work.
According to the report, a bad user experience and poorly designed apps are the biggest cause for complaints when it comes to using retailers mobile apps. About 50 percent of shoppers said they are less likely to shop with a retailer if the retailer's mobile app or site is hard to use.
