ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) and Prometric, trusted provider of market-leading test development and delivery solutions, today announced a multi-year contract renewal for the delivery of the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) program. The Federation is made up of 53 member boards, including all 50 U.S. states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Federation and Prometric began computer-based testing in 1996, a migration from paper-based testing of the NPTE.
"The FSBPT has developed, maintained and administered the NPTE program for more than 25 years and continually researches and uses the best examination methodology available to provide an excellent testing experience," said William A. Hatherill, CEO of the FSBPT. "The National Physical Therapy Examinations program is trusted to provide fair, reliable and secure testing for every candidate seeking validation of their physical therapy knowledge. Our relationship with Prometric dates back to our first computer-based exam, and we have delivered approximately 350,000 exams in that time."
Nearly 30,000 NPTE exams are delivered in computer-based format over four testing windows per year.
"Holding a license in physical therapy signifies to patients that the individual providing care is qualified and trusted by regulatory authorities in their jurisdiction. Prometric is proud to support the FSBPT's stewardship of the National Physical Therapy Examination and its mission to ensure safe physical therapy services for the public," said Michael Brannick, President and CEO of Prometric.
