The competitive spirit award goes to Canada

Somecountriesshow more resilience than others in tough economic times, and Canada is tops in such confidence, a recent survey shows.

Canadians are the most likely to say their country will come back almost or just as strong as before, according to a poll by Monster Worldwide and market research firm GfK.

The firms designed the survey to find out how citizens of seven nations view their country as well as other countries. More than 8,000 people responded.

The United States was No. 3, after India. About 56 percent of survey participants are optimistic about the nation's ability to bounce back from economic hardship, but a substantial number are feeling much less hopeful about the country's competitive spirit. Just 7 percent think the U.S. will not recover.

The survey also asked how hardworking and innovative several international markets appear. China was named the most industrious nation, followed by Germany and the U.S.

For example, about 85 percent of people in India consider the U.S. industrious, followed by 74 percent of Canadians. Only half of the Germans surveyed view the U.S. as hardworking.

Americans rated China, Canada, Germany and the U.K. among the most industrious nations.
