COSTA MESA, Calif., Dec. 27, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The nearly 250 Employees of Morgan Drexen Integrated Systems (http://www.morgandrexen.com) made good on their commitment to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines by donating $1,000 to UNICEF. The company has earmarked the money to help those who were left homeless after the typhoon struck in early November. To raise the money, employees literally put their money where their mouths were by having a company-wide "Potluck for the Philippines" the day before Thanksgiving.
"I'm very proud of our employees," said Morgan Drexen CEO, Walter Ledda, "They are some of the most generous people I have ever met and constantly amaze me with their support of others in need. Even as we are donating money to support disaster victims in the Philippines, they are already planning an event to support homeless children here in our own community."
Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines as one of the most powerful cyclones ever recorded, killing more than 5,000 people and displacing more than 3.4 million others, many of whom have been left with little or nothing.
"We created the potluck with an international design, to make it fun," said Christine Kim, from Public Relations who organized the event. "Each of the 5 floors of our company chose a region of the world and prepared food that was representative of that area. The result was an international fundraiser that exceeded everyone's expectations and raised a lot of money."
Morgan Drexen supports several organizations in an on-going basis, but believes that continuing to highlight the need for aid to the Philippines is important, as the disaster relief need will be great for months going forward. "We are very impressed with what UNICEF has done to help the typhoon victims," added Ledda, "and we know our donation will make a difference because of what UNICEF can accomplish."
