Hack attack at Snapchat

Another week, another hack attack. The latest app to be hit up cyberthieves is messaging app Snapchat.

A website called "Snapchat DB" released 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers (with the last two digits hidden). The database has been taken offline, though a captured version is still available.

This raises questions about other apps that tap the address books of users' phones.

Arik Hesseldahl, senior editor at Re/code, said, "Today would be a good day to think like a hacker or a stalker and revisit whether or not your code has weaknesses that [you] could be forced to apologize for later."

Snapchat did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

NBC News Group is a minority stakeholder in and has a content-sharing partnership with Re/code.
