NEW YORK, Jan. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Steve Millard, president and chief executive officer of Kognitio, has been named to the board of the Center for Veterans Affairs at Cincinnati's Xavier University.
Xavier's Veteran Affairs Center provides returning military veterans a safe, studious, and recreational setting. The Center has multiple resources available to both veterans and dependents such as financial aid, career planning, and both personal and professional assistance such as psychologists, lawyers, and mentorship programs. Xavier's Veteran Affairs Center strives to create an open, friendly space in which veterans feel welcomed and provide guidance necessary to ensure a smooth transition back to school.
"With the number of veterans entering the civilian sector increasing every year, Xavier University has made the commitment to provide for those veterans who are seeking to further their education with the Post 9/11 GI Bill and other educational benefits," said Michael Luallen, the center's director.

"The Executive Advisory Board has been created to provide recourses, advice, and networking in order to provide the highest level of program to those who have faithfully served our country," Luallen added. "With Steve's business expertise and help, as well as the support of the University, we are committed to becoming one of the premiere universities to help veterans successfully make the transition from the military to the civilian sector, and to their future career."
Luallen noted that the Center of Veteran Affairs is focused on maintaining an emphasis in veterans continuing their service through both Xavier University and the community. This is done through a variety of partnerships with organizations in which veterans have the opportunity to continue serving, while making career connections, in their transition back to civilian life.
"Thousands of men and women have contributed greatly to our country by serving in the military. It is incumbent on us to help position them for success as they again become civilians," Millard said. "Xavier University's Center for Veterans Affairs is taking the lead and a huge step forward in this important mission. I am honored to have been asked to join this effort, and look forward to contributing to its success."
