Southwest to start international routes July 1

Southwest Airlines will start flying international routes on July 1 and seek to bring lower fares to those destinations, starting with Aruba, Jamaica and the Bahamas, the company announced Monday.

"Our AirTran acquisition really set the stage for what has turned out to be a massive undertaking," Gary Kelly, Southwest's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said during a news conference.
