(Nasdaq:CARA), a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing new chemical entities designed to alleviate pain by selectively targeting kappa opioid receptors, today announced the closing of its initial public offering of 5,750,000 shares of common stock at a public offering price of $11.00 per share. This includes the exercise in full by the underwriters of their option to purchase up to 750,000 additional shares of common stock at the same price to cover over-allotments.
Including the sale of the additional shares from the option, the net proceeds to Cara from the initial public offering were approximately $55.9 million, after deducting underwriting discounts and commissions and estimated offering expenses.
Stifel and Piper Jaffray & Co. acted as joint book-running managers for the offering. Canaccord Genuity Inc., Needham & Company, LLC and Janney Montgomery Scott LLC acted as co-managers.
