WICHITA, Kan., March 17, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pulse Systems, Inc., an industry-leading provider of Electronic Health Record (EHR), Practice Management and Revenue Cycle Management solutions, is proud to announce that the e-prescribing module in Pulse's Complete EHR has been awarded the Surescripts 2013 White Coat of Quality Award. This is the third consecutive year that Pulse has won this prestigious award.

Pulse achieved the 2013 White Coat of Quality Award for its commitment to monitoring and reducing electronic prescription content errors. The White Coat recognizes organizations that uphold the highest standards of quality in e-prescribing and is a featured part of Surescripts' quality program. The quality program's goal is to achieve 100 percent reliability in e-prescribing and it demands continuous improvements to prescription accuracy and completeness. In order to become a White Coat recipient, Pulse committed to identifying issues through self-reporting, implemented changes and provided training that improved the efficiency and safety of its technology and the electronic prescribing process overall.

Pulse's e-prescribing solution is one of the finest and most intuitive electronic prescription applications available today. The Pulse e-prescribing module's ease of use saves time for physicians, nurses and patients. It is also a valuable tool for the adoption of patient safety measures, as it provides physicians with quick access to a patient's medication history and automatically checks for contraindications. Pulse's e-prescribing solution utilizes advanced search capabilities allowing for the retrieval of precise results through a multitude of user-defined filters, including diagnosis. The search feature also performs queries for pharmacies by zip code, intersections and phone number. Pulse's e-prescribing module also features a state level database for controlled substances and provides real-time eligibility and formulary checks. The specific formulary check lists drugs covered on a patient's individual pharmacy benefits plan.

"Surescripts is proud that our truly collaborative efforts with software technology providers are producing continuous quality improvements in e-prescribing and electronic information exchange. It is an honor to work closely with healthcare software professionals who are committed to implementing our proven e-prescribing best practices and who worked hard to earn the White Coat of Quality distinction," said Ajit Dhavle, Pharm.D., Director of Clinical Quality of Surescripts.

In order to earn a 2013 White Coat of Quality award software providers are required to:

  • Submit a quality commitment letter signed by senior leadership affirming its company's commitment toward a goal of zero electronic prescribing errors
  • Measure e-prescribing content error levels monthly and report to Surescripts in final submission
  • Make software changes needed to reduce e-prescription clinical content error levels
  • Communicate with or train end-users on how to better utilize their e-prescribing system to reduce clinical content errors

"We are proud to receive this prestigious award, as it is a direct reflection of Pulse's strict adherence to best practices for clinical quality in e-prescribing. Earning this award is yet another testament to Pulse's commitment to developing the highest quality software solutions and patient safety check-points for our physician partners and their patients," said Chris Gregg, Chief Technology Officer of Pulse.

The Surescripts White Coat of Quality distinction is earned and awarded annually.
