Can't afford a new car? The 10 best used car buys

For those unable to afford a new vehicle, the used car market is a great place to find a deal.

While today's cars and trucks have an average price around $32,000, according to Bankrate.com, the price gap between the average new and used vehicle is right around $20,000, according to Cars.com.

"There are a lot of great used cars on the market, and with a significant price difference between new and used cars, we know that many shoppers choose to go the used route," Cars.com Executive Editor Joe Wiesenfelder said.

For those who are priced out of the new car market, Cars.com released its list of top buys for around $10,000. Click through to see which vehicles made the list.

Cars.com lauded the vehicle for its handling, and told drivers to choose the sedan.

"The coupe lacks sufficient reliability data," the website said.

This sedan "hits a sweet spot between ride quality and handling," Cars.com said.

The car's "mammoth" backseat and trunk give the 2008 vehicle an edge over its current model, according to Cars.com.

Cars.com said the vehicle's roomy cabin and lengthy list of safety features make it a good choice for first-time drivers and families.

The small crossover's value pricing "translates to used-car affordability," Cars.com said.

Cars.com called the vehicle a "compelling" choice for shoppers in the market for a family sedan, and who don't mind giving up a little space for sportiness.

The vehicle combines both power and fuel efficiency, Cars.com said.

The vehicle's safety features, which include six airbags, make it a good choice for first-time drivers, Cars.com said.

Excellent mileage and reliability make this vehicle a standout, Cars.com said.
