Greenlight Capital, the hedge fund overseen by David Einhorn, has identified a blogger who disclosed its stake in Micron Technology before it was officially announced, and has dropped a legal case seeking to force the website Seeking Alpha to reveal the blogger's name.

"Greenlight has identified the anonymous blogger and has resolved the matter privately to our satisfaction,'' a Greenlight spokesman said on Monday.

A representative for Seeking Alpha said the site is happy with Greenlight's decision to drop the case, adding that similar claims in the past have all been "shut down or withdrawn."

"Platforms such as Seeking Alpha are protected by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act," the spokesperson told CNBC on Monday. "This is not the first demand we have had to disclose pseudonymous authors' identities; we have yet to disclose author identity in any claim submitted to court."
