A former Netflix executive claims the company spread false claims about him in retaliation when he left the company for a job in Amazon's rival streaming video business, according to a report in Variety.

Jerry Kowal, who worked in content acquisition for both companies filed a lawsuit against Netflix and some of its top executives in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday. The suit says Netflix falsely accused Kowal of stealing secret company information, and that Netflix used its status as a top Amazon cloud storage customer to have him fired, even though investigations by both companies had turned up no evidence against him.

Kowal's suit also said he left the company for Amazon because Netflix had a hostile and aggressive environment where senior executives berated their direct reports and bulled them into unethical behavior.

The story says Netflix executives had not responded to calls seeking comment.
