Rumors are surrounding Apple's next iPhone launch. The first is about the timing. Traditionally, Apple consumers can count on a product release in September or October, but this year, things might be different. Talk of a delay has some consumers hanging on to older phones longer than usual.
The second rumor is about larger (4.7 inch and 5.5 inch) display screens. Lindsey Turrentine, editor-in-chief of CNET said Apple needs to get a bigger phone out soon. "People are jumping over to Android because they want that bigger screen," she said.
A bigger screen will most certainly disrupt the competitive landscape.
Apple's largest rival Samsung has been the leader thus far regarding a bigger phone design. "Samsung has profited from having these larger models with really bright and beautiful screens, and Apple is certainly the expert at appealing design, so once Apple comes out with that larger screen it means much less of a selling point for Samsung," said Turrentine.
Apple reports earnings after the bell on Wednesday.
