NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., May 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq:IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician group practice company, announced today that it has acquired Total Inpatient Services, P.A. (TIPS), based in Sugar Land, Texas. The acquisition represents an expansion in the greater Houston market, where IPC already has a well-established presence.
R. Jeffrey Taylor, president and COO of IPC, commented, "TIPS is a well-known and highly respected practice in the southwest Houston market. TIPS has pursued a strategy of practicing in both acute care and post-acute facilities, which melds perfectly with IPC's philosophy of providing inpatient care across the spectrum of facility types. Our new relationship with TIPS directly enhances our reputation for the high quality of care that we are committed to in the Houston market, and throughout the IPC organization."
Mark Murray, M.D., one of the TIPS co-founders and partners, will remain with the practice under IPC in a leadership position. Dr. Murray said, "We are pleased to be joining forces with IPC. Local practices such as TIPS greatly benefit from partnering with a strong national company such as IPC as we face the uncertainties of the new healthcare reforms. We look forward to accessing the financial, management and administrative resources that IPC provides its physicians. We are confident that going forward our practice can further enhance the valuable hospitalist services that we provide to the communities in southwest Houston."
The TIPS acquisition will bring IPC an incremental volume of approximately 30,000 patient encounters on an annualized basis.
