Michael Sam may not have been chosen until the final round of the NFL draft, but the first openly gay player drafted is already selling more jerseys than nearly every other rookie.
In fact, Sam's jerseys are the second best-selling for anyone drafted this year, behind only Heisman Trophy-winner Johnny Manziel, and ahead of first overall pick Jadeveon Clowney, Outsports reported.
"This is unprecedented for a Day 3 pick, let alone a seventh round pick, to crack the top five rookies sold following draft weekend," NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Outsports.
Sam was chosen by the St. Louis Rams as the 249th overall pick. He publicly came out as gay in February.
