When it comes to beer, members of the American Homebrewers Association are a bitter (preferring) group.
In an annual poll conducted by Zymurgy magazine, the journal of the AHA, voters named Russian River Brewing Co.'s Pliny the Elder as the "Best Commercial Beer in America."
It's the sixth year in a row Pliny the Elder has taken the top spot in the poll, which asks readers to choose "any commercial beer available for purchase in the United States." AHA members are allowed to vote for up to 20 of their favorite beers in the online poll.
"We are blown away that Pliny has won the award six years in a row," Russian River's Vinnie Cilurzo told Zymurgy. "There are so many great beers out there. It is very humbling."
Reflecting the craft beer drinkers continued love affair for beer with a strong hop flavor, India Pale Ales and Double IPAs took eight of the top 10 spots.
The top-ranked beers are:
- Russian River Pliny the Elder
- Bell's Two Hearted Ale
- Ballast Point Sculpin IPA
- Bell's Hopslam
- The Alchemist Heady Topper
- Lagunitas Sucks
- Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
- Stone Enjoy By IPA
- Founders Breakfast Stout
- Goose Island Bourbon County Stout
