President and CEO Meg Whitman has been appointed chair of the company's board of directors, HP announced Thursday.
Former interim chairman Ralph Whitworth stepped down on Tuesday, citing his health. Whitman has served as HP's president and CEO since September 2011.
In addition, the company announced board director Pat Russo has been appointed lead independent director and Alcoa CEO Klaus Kleinfeld was appointed as a board member.
"I'm extremely pleased that the board has elected Meg its chairman and Pat lead independent director," Whitworth said in a company release.
