ALEXANDRIA, VA., July 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Frank Grosso, RPh, Vice President of Pharmacy Services at Genesis HealthCare, LLC, has been named Executive Director and CEO of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). He will assume his position on September 8, 2014.
"The opportunity to take on the leadership of an organization that has been at the forefront of medication therapy management for seniors for 45 years is very exciting," Grosso said.
Grosso has 35 years of long-term care pharmacy experience and is currently Vice President of Pharmacy Services for Genesis HealthCare, a long-term care provider, where he has worked since 1991. His responsibilities include oversight of operational and contracted pharmacy services for 411 nursing facilities and assisted living communities that are owned and managed by Genesis. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President of Pharmacy Operations for NeighborCare Pharmacy for 14 years. A graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy, he also served as director of long-term care pharmacy at Fay's Drugs.
Grosso has been an ASCP member since 1981 and has served on numerous ASCP committees including the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force and the Advocacy Council. He has been involved in key issues such as short-cycle dispensing, implementation of Medicare Part D, and controlled drugs.
Grosso notes that in addition to providing medication therapy to patients in various long-term care settings, the Affordable Care Act opens the door to millions of community-based seniors. "The opportunity and the challenge for the ASCP membership is to balance the current pharmacy product-bundled service with the millions of community-based patients who need medication management," he said.
"Today's consultant pharmacists are recognized health care professionals specializing in the long-term care arena where we've honed our skills as experts in providing medication therapy to improve the lives of seniors," he said.
"Health care reform continues to draw the profession of pharmacy into new territory, testing our ability to adapt to the continuously evolving role of pharmaceutical care experts. There is the need to incorporate new strategies and methods to address this changing environment."
