British Airways suspended flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone on Tuesday as the West African nations battle with the world's largest Ebola outbreak.

British Airways said the flights would be halted until August 31 due to the "deteriorating public health situation in both countries," the company said in a statement.

Affected passengers will be offered a full refund and the ability to rebook their flights to a later date.

"The safety of our customers, crew and ground teams is always our top priority and we will keep the route under constant review in the coming weeks," the company said.

Ebola, which is spread by close contact with blood and other bodily fluids, has reportedly killed at least 887 people in four West African countries.
