Los Angeles, Calif., Aug. 12, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Monterey Car Week is a bucket-list event for all serious car enthusiasts. Once a year, rare automotive specimens can be seen in the wild on California's scenic Central Coast. Nowhere else on the planet can the general public see multi-million-dollar museum cars, priceless one-off factory prototypes, Le Mans-winning racers and more on the roads of the Monterey peninsula. For the first time, enthusiasts will be able to see the cars, hear their stories and see what transpires behind the scenes from the participant's viewpoint.
CarStories.com, the Petersen Automotive Museum's enthusiast site, will offer exclusive coverage of Monterey Car Week 2014 beginning Tuesday, August 11, and running through Sunday, August 17. Cars from the Petersen Automotive Museum's collection have been invited to participate in many major events this year, and CarStories.com will be on the scene, documenting every start-up and high-speed pass in Monterey. Social media updates, video clips, features and Podcasts will tell the stories from:
- Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival 2014 at the Monterey Jet Center
- The Carmel Mission Classic
- The Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance Presented by Rolex
- Bonham's Quail Lodge Auction
- Porsche Club of America's Werks Reunion
- The Automotive Film and Arts Festival
- Legends of the Autobahn
- Concorso Italiano
- The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion
- The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
The Petersen will display four rare cars from its collection at these events: a 1956 Jaguar XK-SS formerly owned by Steve McQueen, a 1954 Plymouth Explorer Concept by Ghia, a 1947 Cisitalia 202 Coupe, and a 1929 Ruxton Model C Roadster, which will compete at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
The site also offers readers the opportunity to share their own car stories with the world because "Everyone has a story about a car." A simple online form allows readers to upload images, video and text. While The Petersen will have four people covering events on site all week, it also invites readers to showcase their own galleries and stories through a simple submission tool on the website.
