Renowned Data Visionary Jer Thorp Featured at GovDelivery's 8th Annual Federal Communications Summit

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 15, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GovDelivery, the leading provider of cloud-based public sector communications solutions, today announced that world renowned data artist and big data visionary Jer Thorp will be the opening keynote speaker at the company's 8th Annual Federal Communications Summit, October 14 at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, D.C. Registration is now open for the complimentary event, where hundreds of government communicators and technologists will gather to exchange ideas, network, and learn how Federal agency employees can leverage the power of data for positive, influential change for the communities they serve.

Through his extremely compelling data visualization projects, Thorp will demonstrate the power of humanizing the influx of information surrounding us. Thorp teaches audiences how adding meaning and narrative to huge amounts of data can help people take control of the information that surrounds them, and revolutionize the way they use data. Attendees will be able to take what they learn and implement it into their strategies for effectively communicating with their stakeholders.

Also speaking at this year's event is author and technological optimist, Abhi Nemani. Most recently, Nemani was appointed as the City of Los Angeles' first Chief Data Officer. Previously, Nemani helped build the national non-profit Code for America (CfA), a technology organization dedicated to reinventing government for the 21st century. He led CfA's product strategy to help its teams tackle local government challenges ranging from transparency and business licensing, to food stamps and public safety. Nemani also led the organization's efforts to scale by building multiple new programs: a first-of-its-kind civic startup accelerator; an international volunteer corps; and a collaborative network for hundreds of government innovators. Nemani's work at CfA has been featured in the New York Times, Government Technology and Forbes, and he has been featured as a speaker at SxSW, the World Bank, and various universities and conferences around the world.

Hundreds of government employees and contractors have already registered for this year's conference. Interested attendees can register at the event website: http://bit.ly/fedcomm14.
