IEC appoints IVG CEO, Keith Blakely, as Chairman of Technical Committee 113

BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 14, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Keith Blakely, CEO of The InVentures Group, Inc. has been appointed as Chairman of Technical Committee 113, a subsection of the International Electrotechnical Commission. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, founded in 1906. It is the leading global organization that publishes consensus-based International Standards and manages conformity assessment systems for electric and electronic products, systems and services, collectively known as electrotechnology. Members are National Committees and they appoint experts and delegates coming from industry, government bodies, associations and academia to participate in the technical and conformity assessment work of the IEC. TC 113 is charged with nanotechnology standardization for electrical and electronic products and systems and covers a diverse range of nano materials including, among others, graphene. Graphene has been a focus of major electronic companies including IBM, Samsung, Nokia, Apple, and others due to its incredible electrical properties and potential for integration into the next-generation of electronic devices.

Vince Caprio, the Executive Director of the NanoBusiness Commercialization Alliance, commented: "Keith is one of the original pioneers in commercializing nanotechnology and nanomaterials and understands the critical role that organizations such as the IEC play in moving products out of the laboratory and into the marketplace. Given the tremendous interest in emerging nano materials such as graphene and the huge impact these innovations will have on products of the future, his background and experience will serve the community well."

Stephen Waite, the author of Quantum Investing and co-founder of the Graphene Stakeholders Association added: "I've observed first-hand the challenges that new technologies and advanced materials have reaching the marketplace. The efforts of organizations such as the IEC and the GSA are intended to reduce the hurdles and accelerate the successful and responsible integration of new ideas into products that can transform our lives. I know that this is an area that Keith is passionate about and I expect TC 113 to be very productive under his leadership."

Blakely is a thirty year veteran of the advanced materials industry and has founded or led several advanced materials and nanotechnology companies since 1981. He currently leads The InVentures Group which has assisted numerous companies in the advanced materials space with technical, engineering, operational, and strategic challenges and acted as a venture investor in several. Blakely is a two-time winner of R &D Magazines R &D100 award, a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, and holds several US patents.
