FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Allied Electronics, a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), announced today that past president Lee Davidson has been named the 2014 recipient of the prestigious Gail S. Carter Award, presented on October 28, 2014 at the Electronic Component Industry Association (ECIA) Executive Conference in Chicago.

"Given by the ECIA and voted on by their Board of Directors, the Gail S. Carter Award is ECIA's highest award, given annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the electronic components industry, has taken an active role in ECIA and civic affairs, and is recognized by the industry as a leader," said John Denslinger, president and CEO of ECIA. "Lee Davidson was chosen to receive this award based on his support of the association in numerous ways, including serving as a member of the ECIA and NEDA [National Electronic Distributors Association] Boards and on the ECIA Executive Committee, which has greatly benefitted the electronic distribution industry and greatly enhanced ECIA and NEDA's value."

Speaking of his predecessor, current Allied president Scott McLendon said, "Lee has been a wonderful teacher and mentor to me. The success he's had over the years is a testament to his approach of always putting the customer (external, internal, and suppliers) at the heart of every critical decision. I can't think of anyone more deserving of this wonderful honor."

Reflecting on the award, Davidson said, "This is a great honor, particularly now as I retire after 42 years in the electronics components industry. It is especially meaningful as it comes from the peers – including distributors, suppliers, and representatives – whom I hold in such high regard. I am extremely humbled to be recognized alongside the others who have received this award, and am grateful to all who have made it possible for me to serve in this industry."
