Attention java junkies: Starbucks wants to put you one step closer to your morning fix.
The coffee retailer is planning to launch a food and beverage delivery service in select markets during the second half of next year, said the chain's CEO Howard Schultz on the company's conference call.
"Imagine the ability to create a standing order of Starbucks delivered hot to your desk daily," Schultz said. "That's our version of e-commerce on steroids."
The delivery service will be available to Starbucks loyalty program members as part of its new mobile order and pay app that will launch in Portland next month and nationwide next year.
When asked about delivery, Starbucks Global Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ryan said it is still "early days" and the chain isn't ready to tip its hand with more details but that it's "moving full speed ahead."
The move comes as Starbucks increasingly focuses on adapting to the shift in consumer behavior to shopping online more and in stores less.
Earlier Thursday, Starbucks delivered earnings that matched estimates, but its revenue and global comparable sales fell short of Wall Street's forecast.
