Name: Just Born
Location: Bethlehem, U.S.
Although the first Just Born candy-making and retail store opened in Brooklyn in 1923, the company's story goes back to 1910, when Russian emigrant Sam Born settled in the U.S.
Born's use of what was then innovative technology – he invented a machine that mechanically inserted sticks into lollipops – and the freshness of his products saw the company not only survive but thrive during the Great Depression of the 1930s, prompting them to move to bigger facilities in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1932, where the business remains today.
Ross Born - the company's current co-CEO – told CNBC.com that the success of the company can be attributed to its long-established confectionary brands which include Peeps, Mike & Ike and Hot Tamales, and to its 600 valued employees who are engaged in nurturing our brands ".
