CINCINNATI, Nov. 12, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AMP Holding Inc. (OTCQB:AMPD), parent company of AMP Trucks Inc., has entered into a purchase agreement with a major transportation company to supply 18 all-electric Workhorse E-100 Walk In Vans to be deployed in the Houston-Galveston, Texas area. The U.S. Department Of Energy (DOE) selected this project to improve local air quality in the Houston-Galveston area, which is currently designated as a National Ambient Air Quality Non-Attainment Area.
In announcing the purchase, Steve Burns, CEO of AMP Holding, said, "We are honored to be working with one of the world's major transportation companies on this project in support of their sustainability effort. Our Workhorse E-100 truck is purpose-built to transform the package delivery vehicle market. Built on our new, narrow track W88 chassis, the trucks come with a 100 kWh Lithium battery pack featuring Panasonic 18650 cells that provide power to a 2200 nm (268 bhp) permanent magnet motor powerful enough to eliminate the need for a transmission."
The Workhorse E-100 is designed and built to meet the transportation company's daily duty cycle while delivering a zero-emission driving experience and eliminating the consumption of more than 650,000 gallons of diesel fuel over the vehicle's projected life. In addition, AMP's proprietary onboard telematics capture thousands of data points to measure vehicle performance and efficiency.
Funded by a grant from the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) has partnered with the Center for Technology and the Environment (CTE) with the objective of accelerating the introduction and deployment of electric vehicles into the cargo transportation sector.
The Houston-Galveston Area Council is the region-wide voluntary association of local governments in the 13-county Gulf Coast Planning region of Texas. Its service area is 12,500 square miles and contains more than 6 million people. H-GAC's mission is to serve as the instrument of local government cooperation, promoting the region's orderly development and the safety and welfare of its citizens
The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization based in Atlanta, Georgia that facilitates programs to develop technologies and implement solutions for energy and environmental sustainability. Since its founding in 1993, CTE has managed a portfolio of more than $280 million in federal, state, and local cost-shared research, development, and demonstration projects involving more than 200 organizations in the advanced transportation technology field.
