Jonathan Pickering founded Pickerings Lifts in 1854. The Stockton-on-Tees (pictured), U.K. company describes itself as, "the U.K.'s leading independent lift manufacturer."

Innovation has been central to the history of Pickerings, which employs more than 350 people today. In 1888, the company manufactured its first electric lift, while in 1896 it made the, "first fully automatic push button lift," which it has described as, "the forerunner of many developments in the lift industry."

After the death of Jonathan Pickering in 1891, Jonathan Fothergill was made Managing Director. Today, the company is managed and owned by the fifth generation of the Fothergill family.
