EBay could lay off thousands of employees in the early half of 2015 as it plans its spinoff, Dow Jones reported Wednesday, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.
The cuts are expected to impact employees in eBay's core marketplace division, the sources said.
One person noted that the online auctioneer has considered cutting some 3,000 positions, about 10 percent of its overall headcount, according to the report.
A spokeswoman from the firm declined to comment beyond saying, "We are focused on running the business and setting eBay and PayPal up for success as independent companies."
EBay shares moved modestly higher in after-hours trading.
