'Tis the season for year-end roundups, and Apple and Google aren't to be outdone. 

The tech giants have released their annual "best of" lists for apps available in their online stores. The apps fall into a number of categories, including mobile photography, health and fitness, social and education. The year's fastest growing app category in the Google play store was "health & fitness." For Apple, the top app was Elevate, a brain-training app, followed by Instagram's Hyperlapse, a time-lapse videography app.
