SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- By offering the ability for reviews and promotional daily deals, the Vopia.com search engine took another step forward yesterday in its bid to dominate as the go-to-place for local businesses.
The Vopia.com functions launched this December 15th, are expected to draw considerable attention as it will be the first of its kind, with over 45 million small and medium-sized enterprises listed on its platform. Vopia's database will be over five times larger than Yelp's 8 million company listings.
"Vopia looks to be very strong in Europe and South America with over 20 million company profiles," said J. Frederiksen, CEO, Vopia Inc.
This is an online directory that will give companies their own website on Vopia's platform, that will offer news, user reviews and other relevant information. Vopia gathers data from Yelp, Groupon, Foursquare, Google, Facebook, and hundreds of other sites, to bring together local listings and provide individual pages for each company in the process.
Vopia says that while it has quietly built up the service, it has already created 45 million pages. Now that the service has officially gone live, it will open the platform to American and European companies to offer daily deals directly on the site.
"Our effort is to bring millions of businesses to the Vopia marketplace and connect them with our developing group of mobile users who are looking for things to do, see, or buy. We give these merchants their own space on Vopia and new tools to highlight their business and bring new customers through their door," said Jorgen Frederiksen.
Not all of these 45 million pages have been created in cooperation with the companies concerned. Currently, the listed web pages have been uploaded for free, with basic details on the companies and their services.
"These pages have been uploaded for free to require the companies themselves to continue the upload and maintenance of their individual pages… If they want to continue to build and grow their pages, they will have to register for our premium solution," said Vopia CEO, Frederiksen. The price for the premium service has not yet been announced but the company expects this will be revealed shortly. Companies can now go and review their listings on the Vopia.com platform.
These new profile pages will now be searchable not only on Vopia.com, but also through Google. This move will potentially mean a lot more traffic to Vopia.com via searches from Google, and it will give Vopia.com a more consistent base with businesses. Jorgen Frederiksen of Vopia Inc., said that "Everyone has or wants their pages on Google, and it is important for us to reach our target audience where they are located."
