Sony Pictures announced on Tuesday that "The Interview" generated more than $31 million in consumer sales since its release last month, making it the firm's No. 1 online film of all time.
Across all platforms, the film was rented or purchased more than 4.3 million times between Dec. 24 and Jan. 4, the company said.
The movie was made available on Web platforms, including Google Play, YouTube and Amazon, after terrorist threats led theaters to move against releasing the film. The film was also shown by cable and satellite providers through video-on-demand services.
The Interview opened in a limited theatrical release on Christmas Day. To date, theatrical box office totals are $5 million.
