The Travelers Cos. on Thursday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $1.04 billion.
The New York-based company said it had profit of $3.10 per share. Earnings, adjusted for investment gains, were $3.07 per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.53 per share.
The insurer posted revenue of $6.65 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Analysts expected $6.6 billion, according to Zacks.
For the year, the company reported profit of $3.69 billion, or $10.70 per share. Revenue was reported as $26.65 billion.
Travelers shares have declined almost 1 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has fallen slightly more than 1 percent. The stock has risen 24 percent in the last 12 months.
