American Electric Power misses 4Q Street forecasts

American Electric Power on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter profit of $191 million.

On a per-share basis, the Columbus, Ohio-based company said it had profit of 39 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 47 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 52 cents per share.

The utility posted revenue of $4 billion in the period, which also fell short of Street forecasts. Analysts expected $4.37 billion, according to Zacks.

For the year, the company reported profit of $1.63 billion, or $3.34 per share. Revenue was reported as $17 billion.

AEP expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.40 to $3.60 per share.

AEP shares have climbed nearly 6 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has fallen slightly more than 1 percent. The stock has risen 36 percent in the last 12 months.
