CCTV Script 29/01/15

— This is the script of CNBC's news report for China's CCTV on January 29, Thursday.

Las Vegas Sands out with better than expected numbers after the bell, saying overall profits were up 25 per cent in the 4th quarter.

CNBC's Jane Wells has more.

LAS VEGAS SANDS CEO SHELDON ADELSON SAYING MORE THAN ONCE ON THE CALL, "DID SOMEBODY SAY THINGS HAD SLOWN DOWN?"

SANDS MISSED ON THE TOPLINE BUT A BEAT ON EARNINGS AND A STRONG BEAT ON EBITDA...COMING IN AT ONE POINT THREE FIVE BILLION DOLLARS, A RECORD FOR THE QUARTER.

A NICE BUMP IN THE DIVIDEND TO 50 CENTS IN THE LAST QUARTER, GOING UP TO 65 CENTS A SHARE THIS QUARTER. TO QUOTE ADELSON "YAY DIVIDENDS"

REVENUES AND EBITDA AT ITS LARGEST PROPERTY, THE VENETIAN MACAO, BOTH FELL OVER 20 PERCENT, WITH CHALLENGES ON THE VIP SIDE, ADELSON SAID TRAFFIC FROM MAINLAND CHINA IS ACCELERATING, UP 20 PERCENT IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER...80 PERCENT OF REVENUES NOW COME FROM MASS GAMING OR NON GAMING, THEIR NON GAMING REVENUES ARE MORE THAN THE OTHER FIVE PLAYERS COMBINED.

[SHELDON ADELSON / CEO, LAS VEGAS SANDS] "WE MADE ALL THESE INVESTMENTS WHEN OTHERS DIDN'T. EVERYTHING WE HAVE INVESTED IN MACAUTO DATE - THE RETAIL SHOPPING MALLS, THE ENTERTAINMENT OFFERINGS, AND THE COTAI ARENA. AND EVERYTHING WE WILL INVEST IN THE FUTURE IS PREDICATED ON DELIVERING ON OUR PROMISE. TO HELP MACAU AND ITS ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION AND ITS EVOLUTION AS THE WORLD'S LEADING BUSINESS AND LEISURE TOURIM DESTINATION."

UNION GAMING HAS SAID THE SCRUTINY OF THE VIP MARKET IN MACAO COULD LONG TERM BE A GOOD THING, AS INVESTORS MAY BE ATTRACTED TO GET BACK INTO STOCKS IN MARKETS WITH MORE ACCOUNABILITY.

ADELSON ALSO SAID REPORTS OF SINGAPORE'S DEMISE ARE GREATLY EXAGERRATED AND EBITDA DOUBLED TO OVER A HALF BILLION DOLALRS, THOUGH SOME CAME FROM A TAX SETTLEMENT.

BUT FOR A COMPANY CALLED LAS VEGAS SANDS, NOT MUCH TO SAY ABOUT LAS VEGAS. CASINO REVENUES FELL 14 PERCENT, ROOM REVENUES DOWN, THE COMPANY PLANS NO CHANGE IN STRATEGY NOW, AND INTERESTING BECAUSE MANY ANALYSTS SEE VEGAS AS A BRIGHT SPOT IN GAMING IN 2015... THOUGH PERHAPS THAT'S MORE OF A BOOST FOR MGM OR EVEN WYNN.
