CHICAGO, Feb. 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX) client Springhill Medical Center (Mobile, Ala., U.S.A.) used the Allscripts Sunrise platform to achieve Stage 7, the highest level attainable, on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM).
The HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model is a methodology that measures progress and cumulative capabilities of EMR systems within hospitals. There are eight stages (0-7) in the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, and Stage 7 represents the most advanced patient record environment. Currently, only 6.2% of hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® Database have currently reached Stage 7.
"Springhill Medical Center has done an excellent job of creating the culture of expectation around the use of its EMR. It is extremely paper free on its nursing units as well as in the intensive areas of emergency department and the ICU. It has no "charts" on the units; all documentation is electronic," Executive Vice President, HIMSS Analytics John P. Hoyt, FACHE, FHIMSS said. "This is a great example that demonstrates that a stand-alone hospital in a competitive market can indeed implement a complete EMR and have strong satisfaction from the medical staff, nursing staff and patients, as its data clearly shows."
Hospitals that achieve Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model have demonstrated sophisticated capabilities such as a complete EMR, Continuity of Care Document (CCD) transactions to share data, data warehousing and data continuity with emergency and ambulatory care. The Allscripts suite of applications provided the foundation for Springhill Medical Center to achieve the Stage 7 designation.
Springhill Medical Center partnered with Allscripts, the first certified educator of HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, to prepare for this accomplishment. During a mock evaluation in the third quarter of 2014, Allscripts helped Springhill identify a few small steps that needed to be taken to reach Stage 7. The flexibility and comprehensive nature of the Allscripts Sunrise solution helped Springhill meet this goal within six months.
"We've got a great team using Allscripts Sunrise, which is a flexible, powerful acute solution," Springhill Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Jeff St. Clair said. "These are the critical components in our work to continuously improve the quality of patient care.
Springhill Medical Center first implemented the Allscripts Sunrise solution in 2004. It also uses Allscripts Managed IT Services, outsourcing its entire information technology department. The partnership between Allscripts and Springhill Medical Center earned Outsourcing Center's Best Outsourcing Partnership award for the past three years.
"Springhill Medical Center is exemplary in its use of technology to drive continuously improving patient outcomes," Allscripts President and Chief Executive Officer Paul M. Black said. "Receiving this endorsement is a testament to the quality of care Springhill provides."
