Thank the dollar for smaller dividends this year

Dividends hit record high but 2015 might not be as rosy

Global dividend payouts may have hit a record $1.167 trillion in 2014, but they still came in below forecasts. And this year things look set to get worse, as the dollar rallies against the vast majority of the world's currencies.

Global dividends climbed over 10 percent year on year according to new data from Henderson Global Investors, but fell short of the group's earlier forecast of $15.5 billion, due to weakness in the last quarter of 2014.
