Phablet unboxed: ZTE Grand X Max+

AT&T's prepaid carrier, Cricket, is going head-to-head against T-Mobile's Metro PCS as it introduces similar devices such as the ZTE Grand X Max+.

The 6-inch phablet weighs 6.06 ounces, making it the lightest big-screen handset available in the market. Its size compares to the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Google Nexus 6.

The device contains 16 gigabytes of internal memory and can be expanded up to 32 GB when an external SD card is inserted.

When compared with other ZTE devices, the Grand X Max+ stands out for its 5 megapixel front-facing camera. "Taking brilliant photographs has rarely been a strong suit for ZTE handsets. But surprisingly, I was genuinely impressed with both the Max+'s rear- and front-facing cameras," said CNET's Lynn La.

Cricket's exclusive device retails for $199.99 when activated with a prepaid rate plan.
