American Red Cross to Ring The Nasdaq Stock Market Closing Bell

ADVISORY, Mar. 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

What:

American Red Cross will visit the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square to raise awareness for the tens of thousands of Americans impacted by home fires every year. The vast majority of 70,000+ disasters that the Red Cross responds to annually are home fires. With home heating the second leading cause of such disasters, the Red Cross sees an increase in response activity in the winter months. This year’s brutal winter has been no exception with a spike in the number of residents turning to the Red Cross for emergency assistance—food, clothing, temporary shelter, blankets and emotional support.

The Red Cross is urging the public to help families by donating to the #GiveWhatFireTakes campaign. Donations today can turn into tangible items tomorrow for those in need across the country. To help those affected by home fires, please visit redcross.org, call 1-800-REDCROSS or go to our Crowdrise page at crowdrise.com/givewhatfiretakes. Your donation could help provide care and comfort to families.

In honor of the occasion, Josh Lockwood, Regional Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross Greater New York Region, will ring the Closing Bell.
