Earnings outlook grows bleak. What to buy

The expected downer of the upcoming earnings season portends a bleak outlook for investors, as they brace for what could be the first quarter of negative growth since 2009.

In the past few months, one-fifth of companies in the S&P 500 issued negative pre-announcements, blaming currency headwinds and the drop in energy prices. In comparison, only 17 corporations issued positive guidance, marking the smallest number since the first quarter of 2006.
