Slight Majority of Cuban Americans Now Support U.S.-Cuba Policy Normalization, According to Bendixen & Amandi International

NEW YORK, April 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A new poll by Bendixen & Amandi International released today at the site of the NASDAQ marketplace shows a change in opinion amongst Cuban-Americans regarding President Obama's historic announcement to begin normalizing relations between the United States and Cuba. Bendixen & Amandi released the first and only poll regarding Cuban-American attitudes just two days after the President's announcement, which initially exposed a split reaction from within the community. This new survey shows a significant shift with 51 percent now in favor of normalization compared with 44 percent support in December 2014.

"In the three months since President Obama's historic announcement, rather than increasing opposition, the study reveals there is now slight majority support amongst Cuban-Americans for normalization of relations with Cuba," said Fernand Amandi, principal of Bendixen & Amandi International. "This is groundbreaking new data on U.S.-Cuba relations from the perspective of those most interested in and impacted by the change," Amandi added.

The full results of the poll include the freshest insights from the Cuban-American community into the easing of travel restrictions to Cuba, the economic embargo against Cuba, United States companies being able to sell their products in Cuba, and allowing for the free flow of capital into Cuba to support small business, among other issues. The complete poll results will be presented at The Cuba Opportunity Summit on April 1st, 2015 in New York City. The conference is being organized by Knowledge@Wharton and the Lauder Institute at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania as well as by Momentum, an events management firm, and Tres Mares, a private equity firm in Miami.

The national poll surveyed 400 Cuban-American adults, representative of the approximately 2 million Cuban Americans currently living in the United States.
