A surge in mergers and acquisitions due to high levels of corporate cash, low interest rates and a favorable financing environment may only be getting started.

To ride this trend, CNBC Pro highlights some of the companies that could be potential targets.

Since the post-crisis low, companies have been using their cash piles and taking on cheap debt to finance activities that could boost their stock prices in the form of buybacks and dividends, but M&A appears to be back in vogue.

"A combination of over-capitalized companies, growing assets under management at activist investors, cheap financing and political uncertainty leads us to believe that we are still in the early to mid-innings of the M&A boom," wrote Jason Trennert, chief investment strategist of Strategas Research.
