Jet Suite gets trendy in Bay Area

Traffic is a serious problem in Silicon Valley, but for residents who value their time, and who boast deep pockets, there's a solution.

JetSuite is a private jet company that's been in business for six years. The company's CEO says he's now seeing a new trend: More of his customers want to avoid the congested roads, and instead fly to popular getaways.

"In terms of dollars and cents, you're looking at about $4,000 dollars up and down the West Coast, and probably $3,000 for a short hop within the Bay Area," CEO Alex Wilcox told CNBC.

JetSuite says some of the most popular routes right now include Silicon Valley to Santa Monica, and San Jose to Napa. That flight takes about 25 minutes versus three or four hours in a car if commuters get stuck in bad traffic.

JetSuite said some clients have even requested flights within the Bay Area, from Oakland to San Jose for example. In bad morning traffic, that could take a couple hours but, with JetSuite, it's a 20-minute flight.

Of course, the convenience of that flight doesn't come cheap: A commuter who booked a four-seat jet all to himself could spend up to $3,000. (JetSuite offers a six-person plane as well).

JetSuite doesn't specifically say who uses its service, but does acknowledge that many of them work in technology.

"One thing about the tech community is that they like to refer one another to the deals that they think make sense," said Wilcox. "So, as soon as you get one or two infuencers in this area, other people pile on quickly. A lot of tech names that you have heard of frequently, who are on the covers of magazines, are JetSuite clients."

Jetsuite boasts a deep bench of fans. Its board includes David Neeleman, the founder of JetBlue as well as Tony Hsieh , the CEO of Zappos, who asked to invest in the company after using the service himself.
