Manager: This is the most important stat about Greece

Santelli Exchange: Emerging market outlook

Greece will probably not exit the European Union and is instead nearing some kind of compromise, said Ruchir Sharma, head of emerging markets at Morgan Stanley.

"The single most important statistic to the entire noise about Greece is that 80 percent of people in Greece want to remain within the EU," he told CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" Monday.

Sharma said that most likely some type of grand bargain will be reached in which Greece remains in the EU "and yet there is still some sort of a default which is allowed because of the limited ability to pay."

"Most people want to remain because they know the alternative is much worse," Sharma said.

Sharma, who is also the author of Breakout Nations: In Pursuit of the Next Economic Miracles, added that the sense of a nearing solution could be reflected in the current Greek bond yield volatility.
