USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez Recognized with Ohtli Award by Government of Mexico

WASHINGTON, May 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) is proud to announce that its President and CEO, Javier Palomarez, will be honored with the national Ohtli Award, presented by the Undersecretary for North America of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergio Alcocer, in acknowledgement of an individual's extraordinary contributions toward the successes of the Mexican community within the United States. Palomarez will receive the award alongside fellow honoree, Eva Longoria, at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C. on May 5th, 2015. Acting Ambassador Alejandro Estivill was also present in the ceremony.

"As the son of a Mexican immigrant from South Texas, I am proud to have had a multicultural upbringing that allowed me to enjoy the very best of Mexico and the United States- two countries that share more than a border. We are inextricably bound by our cultures, communities and commercial interests," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "I am honored to be recognized by the Government of Mexico, and pledge to continue working to build a welcoming economic and social culture in America that supports the success of our entire Hispanic community."

Bestowed on behalf of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the national Ohtli award is presented to Mexicans, Mexican-Americans or members of the Hispanic community in the U.S., who have distinguished themselves as having dedicated a large part of their lives and professional careers to the prosperity and empowerment of Mexican communities in the U.S.

"Now, more than ever, leaders, policymakers and society in the United States should be aware that there is no way to thrive without acknowledging the fact that immigrants in this country contribute to its economy and society. Only by promoting their better integration, the United States will be able to grow to its full potential," said Undersecretary Sergio Alcocer.

Previous Ohtli honorees include: Hilda Solís, former U.S. Secretary of Labor; Bill Richardson, former Governor of New Mexico; Carlos Gutiérrez, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce; and Edward James Olmos, actor, director and activist.
