FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With it's most recent release, Hang w/ becomes the first live mobile broadcasting platform to integrate with the newly released Apple Watch.
Early reports suggest that Apple sold as many as 1,000,000 Watches on the first day alone. Reuters reports that about 6 percent of US Adults plan to purchase an Apple Watch.
"The Apple Watch and other wearable tech will change how people engage with content," said David Swartz, Hang w/ President and CCO. "Glancing at a watch is faster, easier and less distracting than taking out a phone. And live broadcasting is all about immediacy. If someone you care about is broadcasting live, the fact that we can alert you to it on your wrist means it's easier for you to catch those moments you don't want to miss."
The update also sees the addition of Twitter login, allowing you to login with your Twitter account - and making it even easier to broadcast directly to your Twitter stream. Hang w/'s previous update included a deeper integration with Facebook that led to a remarkable 400% increase in connections to the social giant via Hang w/.
Hang w/ was released to the market in 2013 and has seen millions of live broadcasts since launch. Viewers can engage with the broadcaster using real-time chat which is saved along with the video archive for future viewing. Along with the Apple Watch extension and multi-platform streaming, Hang w/ lists private broadcasts, an integrated ad platform, archived content, filters, blocking, private chat, a robust Discovery feature, and a fully functioning Android app as additional key points of differentiation.
Broadcasters have the option for public or "Private Access" broadcasts. Several Hang w/ broadcasters have used Private Access to great effect, such as a couple who shared their wedding around the world to family and friends; new parents who shared their baby's first moments; and most notably, the record-breaking Indiegogo funded production, Con Man, which raised more than $3,000,000 in total, and integrated Hang w/ Private Access accounts as part of their reward system for backers.
"We enjoy pushing the category forward," said Andrew Maltin, Hang w/ CEO. "It's exciting that the world is waking up to the promise of live - but we've been listening to our millions of users and evolving the platform far beyond the simple novelty of a live broadcast for some time now. Private broadcasts; user blocking that works; a discovery engine to surface great content. The list goes on. In the first quarter of this year, our average iPhone user spent more than 17 minutes per session, for an average of three sessions per day. That's almost an hour per day on average! Our users love the experience of Hanging w/ each other and we are committed to continually pushing that experience forward."
