As physical music sales are "pretty much gone," success in the industry boils down to live performance and establishing loyalty on social media, singer-songwriter Emin Agalarov said Monday.
The Azerbaijan-born Russian musician and businessman—son of developer Aras Agalarov—has gained a following in Russia and parts of Europe. Now, he looks to crack the U.S. market.
"I want to be successful in every territory I attempt," Emin Agalarov said in an interview on CNBC's "Closing Bell."
Gaining influence on platforms including Twitter and YouTube is crucial in the current landscape, he noted.
Agalarov said his music should not be judged based on political perceptions of Russia. He added that some listeners have come to his music with a negative stigma because of his wealthy background.
